Known as REST Therapy (Restricted Environmental Stimulation Technique) or Sensory Deprivation, Floatation Therapy or Floating is an experience that involves lying down in a saltwater solution in silent darkness.
The tank is a big bathtub filled with 10″ of water & 1,100 lbs. of magnesium sulfate (Epsom salt). The high amount of salt makes the water extremely buoyant and enables the body to float effortlessly on the surface.
The solution inside the tank is kept at a 93.5°F, the same temperature as the outside of the human body, making the water & air inside neither hot or cold. There is a light inside the float tank, when turned off, creates total darkness.
Float tanks also mitigate sound. By removing all environmental stimuli, we allow the mind, body, (and soul!), to rest, rejuvenate, and restore; free from all outside distractions of this crazy but oh-so-beautiful world.
